GuideStar Eldercare Expands Capacity to Serve Texas and Ohio
Crown Point, IN, March 28, 2024 - GuideStar Eldercare has augmented and expanded its leadership team as part of a major expansion of its pioneering neurobehavioral healthcare services for geriatric residents in long-term care facilities, announced Steven L. Posar, MD, CEO, Founder & Chief Medical Officer. The firm is expanding its geographic footprint and increasing access to its evidence-based dementia care models for skilled nursing facilities in Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as Northeastern Ohio, including greater Cleveland and Akron areas.
Corporate leadership expansion includes the promotions of Maureen M. Maloney to President & Chief Operating Officer and Sima Cutler, Esq. to General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer & EVP of Corporate Administration. Maloney builds on a substantial track record of success in healthcare operations. Cutler applies a wealth of legal experience related to regulatory requirements and compliance. Both veteran leaders within the organization have been instrumental in the growth of the company and the success of client organizations, said Posar. Their promotions increase GuideStar Eldercare’s capacity to serve long-term care organizations, he added.
New appointments to the sales team include Mike Boyum as Vice President of Sales; Sage Fox, Regional Vice President of Sales in the state of Texas; and Shawn Clark as Associate Vice President of Sales for the Ohio region. Each serves as an ambassador to leaders and clinicians in skilled nursing facilities who are seeking to apply emerging knowledge of dementia and geriatric care—and position their facilities for regulatory compliance. This is especially important as CMS has urged scrutiny of the use of antipsychotic medications—and more recently, anticonvulsant medications—both commonly used in nursing homes to manage Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).
Clinical care models for geriatric residents and those living with dementia need to build on applied research and proven best practices, leading with a neurological focus, said Posar. A ground-breaking GuideStar Eldercare antipsychotic stewardship care model piloted in three Indiana skilled nursing facilities reduced use of antipsychotics by 68%, as reported in JAMDA (Sept. 25, 2023).
The new and expanded corporate team at GuideStar Eldercare is dedicated to supporting long-term care stakeholders with a neurology-forward approach to diagnosis and proven protocols for reducing the use of unnecessary and dangerous medications. The GuideStar Eldercare team reduces suffering while advancing dignity, functionality, and quality of life for geriatric residents of our nation’s long-term care facilities. Clinical leaders have been regular presenters at conferences and events, including the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, the Ohio Healthcare Association, the Texas Healthcare Association, Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame, and many others.
