Huntington’s Disease - Case Study
Issue: A resident diagnosed with Huntington's Disease was referred to GuideStar Eldercare from a health care center for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment due challenging behaviors with extreme episodes of aggression. The symptoms and behaviors displayed were not previously recognized as a subset of Huntington's.
Solution: GuideStar Eldercare's multi-disciplinary approach of expert clinicians discovered an underlying Pseudobulbar Affective Disorder that was previously undiagnosed. The resident was treated with appropriate medications and care strategies for this specific underlying diagnosis.
Results: Within days, the resident’s aggressive behaviors diminished and their quality of life and independence improved.
